Characteristics and usage of indenters

Diamond indenters (also called penetrators or tips) are used for measuring hardness of metals in hardness testers, according to standardized testing methods by Rockwell, or Vickers (more information about the testing methods here: Rockwell / Vickers).

Available products and services

Indenters type Rockwell

  • The indenter of this type is made with a natural diamond that is ground into a conical shape with a tip angle of 120°.
  • Produced according to the Czech technical norm ČSN 99 4441.
  • Provided with a certificate usable both for common workshop measurements or with official verification for official purposes. Diamond indenters with the official verification are to be used as a standard gauge.
  • Also available as the BRIRO type.

Indenters type Vickers

  • The indenter of this type is made with a natural diamond that is ground into a pyramidal shape with a point angle of 136 degrees and a square base.
  • Produced according to the Czech technical norm ČSN 99 4441.
  • Provided with a certificate usable both for common workshop measurements or with official verification for official purposes. Diamond indenters with the official verification are to be used as a standard gauge.
