TRICONE BITS

Characteristics and usage

Tricone bits are roller cone bits consisting of three rotating cones working inside each other and each with its own row of cutting teeth (source – collins dictionary). They are used for non-coring drilling applications. Originally, roller cone bits have been designed with just two rotational cones, evolving into three cones later on (source – wikipedia).

These drilling tools are equiped with cutting elements from tungsten carbide, or steel. They are used for technical drilling in coal mines, construction as well as for geothermal and geotechnical applications.

Main advantages of tricone bits

  • Tricone bits are well suited for drilling in fractured rock formations.
  • Drilling with these tools merges benefits of rotational and impact drilling methods.
  • More economical compared to non-coring PDC bits (also offered by us in steel, or matrix version) whilst drilling in less difficult rock formations.

Bits with Steel Teeth

Cutting elements of these bits are made out of steel, which represents an economical alternative to bits with tungsten carbide inserts. They are being used for drilling in slightly abrasive to softer rock formations.

Diameter
2 3/8" – 17 1/2" (60,3 – 444,5 mm)
IADC
211, 221, 231, 213, 223, 233, 311, 321, 331, 313, 323, 333
Thread type
A-rod, AW-Rod, N-rod; N42, 2 3/8 Reg, 2 7/8 Reg, 3 ½ Reg, 4 ½ Reg, 6 5/8 Reg

We also offer individual shoulders of tricone bits.
